Barriers to seeking help

Educating lawyers on the ins and outs of law is vital. Just as important is educating on mental health and how challenging it is to teach vulnerability to a culture that highlights perfection.

Research shows that being authentic and being intrinsically motivated results in higher productivity and greater longevity. It also shows that distressed lawyers do not seek help and that it is a stigma that prevents them from reaching out.

We need to create a culture in which seeking help is positive. Developing a sense of well-being is good for business, both profitability and longevity. It is also a happier way to live.
